PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mawunyo Kato (ranked 24544 p4p, 25083 weight class) and Kendrick Sosa (ranked 576 p4p, 556 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Mawunyo Kato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Kendrick Sosa!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Reed Andrews and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sosa gets a clinch.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sosa is stalling in the full guard.

Kato throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Sosa escapes and throws Kato's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Kato is looking to reverse the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kato is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sosa controlling from the full mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sosa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kato, pushing him back against the cage.

Kato drags the fight down to the ground.

Kato has an active guard here but Sosa has managed to pass into half guard.
Kato tries to get to full guard but Sosa has control of the leg.
Kato wants to get back to full guard but Sosa has mounted him!

Sosa's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Kato manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Sosa slows the pace down in half guard.
Sosa moves nicely into side control.
Kato trying to control but Sosa flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

What can Kato do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Kato rolls, trying to escape but Sosa keeps control of the position.
Sosa is trying to stick to Kato's back but Kato is turning into Sosa. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Sosa's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Kato.

Sosa looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Sosa is looking to sweep but instead, Kato has passed into half guard.
Sosa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kato's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kato's back!
Sosa controlling the position well here. Kato rolled but Sosa kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Let's hope that Sosa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Kato turns into Sosa and is now in his guard.

Kendrick Sosa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

The referee is keeping an eye on Sosa - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Sosa is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Sosa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
More stalling from Sosa.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sosa moves into the clinch.
Kato could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Kato pulls guard successfully.
Sosa stays in close to Kato's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sosa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kato has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sosa has managed to get both his arms back between Kato's legs - danger averted.

Kato is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

I would just about give that final round to Kendrick Sosa.
Well Sosa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
