This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 25 losses; Gunner Mason! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 19 wins and 18 losses; Trip Fontaine! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and George Francis.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Fontaine drives through with a takedown into Mason's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Mason (0) vs (2) Fontaine Mason is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Fontaine is stalling in the full guard. Fontaine stopping the sweep attempt from Mason. Fontaine got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mason has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fontaine has managed to get both his arms back between Mason's legs - danger averted. Fontaine is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Fontaine tries to free his leg and advance position but Mason is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mason can't keep his opponent in guard - Fontaine advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Fontaine is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mason wants to improve his position but Fontaine is controlling well.
Fontaine performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Fontaine is working for a submission of some sort.
Mason has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fontaine is working away from the top position though. Mason on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mason tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fontaine uses his free foot to push down on Mason's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mason. Score +3 for passing guard: Mason (0) vs (5) Fontaine Mason working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Fontaine looking to control but Mason is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fontaine controlling his opponent. Fontaine jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mason manages to avoid the submission attempt. Fontaine taking a breather here. Mason is looking for a sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mason is not content to let Fontaine control the position. Mason might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Mason is looking for a sweep. Fontaine trying to control the position but Mason is working away. Fontaine laying and praying for a moment but Mason takes advantage and regains half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Fontaine wants to work for an arm triangle but Mason is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mason wants to get back to full guard. Fontaine moves into full mount! Mason won't be happy about that! Score +3 for passing guard: Mason (0) vs (8) Fontaine Fontaine trying to control but he's not successful this time. Mason tries to hold on but Fontaine pushes him away.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Fontaine tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Fontaine's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Mason is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Fontaine looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Mason tries to lock up and control but Fontaine gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Fontaine working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Fontaine working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Mason looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Fontaine! Submission of the night perhaps?
