PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gary Hall (ranked 25414 p4p, 5060 weight class) and Gregory Hide (ranked 251 p4p, 195 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gregory Hide!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hide shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hall wants to get back to his feet.
Hide not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Hide looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Hide wants to stand up but Hall has a hold of him and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hide looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Hall keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hall avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hide.
Hide content to control rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hide is working for a submission of some sort.
Still in half guard, Hide seems content to control.
Hide prevents Hall from standing back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hide looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hall is fending him off so far but Hide persists. Nope, Hall circles away and we're back to standing.
Hall tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Hide gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Hall wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hide is trying to force a seperation but Hall has the dominant position.
Hide is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hall is defending well.
Hide wants a takedown.
Gary Hall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gregory Hide.
Hall stalling in the clinch but Hide improves position.
Hall has had enough of the clinch but Hide keeps him there for the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hide looking for a guillotine here but Hall defends easily.

Hide has his foot on Hall's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hall works his way back into a safe position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hide tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hall is looking to stand up but Hide won't let him.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gregory Hide dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hide shoots in for a takedown but Hall shows good takedown defense.
Hall doesn't manage to clinch there - Hide circles away.
Some wild striking there from Hall.
Hall really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hall throws a right hand that Hide ducks under and follows up with a left that Hide also avoids with ease.
Despite the aggression on Hide's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Hall lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hide circles away quickly and effectively.
Hall tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hide tries to counter with a clinch but Hall shakes him off and moves away.

Hide fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hall sprawls well initially but Hide persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hide stalling.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Hide drives through and clinches with Hall against the cage.
Hall wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hide has him pressed against the cage.
Hall has had enough of the clinch but Hide keeps him there for the moment.
Hall wants to break free but Hide has control.

Hide is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hall gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hide misses with a punch to the body.
Hall throws a head punch that misses.
Hide wants to break the clinch but can't.

Hide has hold of one of Hall's legs. Hall is fighting the takedown attempt but Hide gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Gregory Hide has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hide postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hide won't allow Hall to get back to his feet.
Hide lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hide is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hall looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Hide is looking to work some ground and pound but Hall has wrist control.
Hide engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Hide stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hall swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hide fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gary Hall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gregory Hide.
Hall is looking to clinch.
Hall looks to land a combination but Hide avoids it well.
Hall misses with a few strikes there.
Gary Hall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Hide counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hide.
Hide changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hall fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hide slips a jab and a cross from Hall.
Hall throws a right hand that Hide ducks under and follows up with a left that Hide also avoids with ease.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hall misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Hide stands up and waves to Hall to follow him.

A close second round but Gregory Hide will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Hide shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hall but Hall pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hall misses with a few strikes there.
Hide misses with a kick to the body.
Hall tries to clinch but Hide is having none of it.
Hide shoots for a double leg takedown but Hall sprawls well. He's pushed Hide's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Hide scores with a takedown into Hall's guard.
Hide pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hall is keeping the position for now.

Hide controlling from the top position.
Hide trying to control but Hall is working from the bottom.

Hide gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hall wants to clinch.
Hide looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Hide throws a fast counter high kick but Hall manages to duck under it in time.

Hide shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hall sprawls well. Hall wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hide gets slowly back to his feet.
Hall swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hall ducks right into an uppercut from Hide.
Sloppy strikes from Hall. Those never looked like landing.
Hide tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hall defends well and Hide ends up having to push Hall into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hall misses with a few strikes there.
Hide fails to land the takedown.
Hide throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hall's waist but Hall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hide off to one side.
Hide fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Hall fails to land with a series of punches.
Hide wants to counter the offense by Hall and move into the clinch position.
Hall tries to clinch up.
Hide with a poor takedown
and Hall counters with a stiff right hand.
Hall moves in looking to clinch but Hide pushes him off.
Hall displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hide.
Hide takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hall tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hide swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Hide prevents Hall from breaking the clinch.

Hide wants the takedown. Hall is fighting it off but Hide persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hall's guard against the cage.
Hall wants to stand up but Hide is controlling him.

Hide has gone for a leg lock! Hall slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hide's guard.

Hide lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Gary Hall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hide is controlling Hall's posture.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hall is looking to work some ground and pound but Hide has wrist control.
Gregory Hide is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Hide utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
