PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tal Hill (ranked 5814 p4p, 25681 weight class) and Quek Wei (ranked 304 p4p, 329 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tal Hill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Quek Wei!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hill clinches with his opponent.
Wei is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hill is defending well.

Wei drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wei jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Wei working his ground and pound in the gym.
Wei takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Wei is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hill to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hill shrugs it off.

Quek Wei showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hill dives in and grabs Wei's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wei pushes down on Hill's head and hops out.

Wei changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Hill looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wei is fending him off so far but Hill persists. Nope, Wei circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wei can't get the takedown.
Wei goes for a takedown attempt but Hill pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hill fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wei avoids it really well and circles away.

Tal Hill is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hill throws a right hand that Wei ducks under and follows up with a left that Wei also avoids with ease.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Wei crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hill - the referee stops the clock and Wei gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hill. Wei manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Wei tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hill swivels and escapes.

Tal Hill seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hill moves into the clinch.

Wei kicks Hill off and gets back to his feet.
Hill misses with a jab, cross combination.

Hill changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wei tries to avoid it but Hill manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wei to the ground. Wei escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Quek Wei is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wei closes the distance and clinches up with Hill, looking for a takedown. Wei pushes Hill against the cage but Hill circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tal Hill has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wei dives in for a single leg takedown but Hill sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tal Hill showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Wei has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
