Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nicky Rod (ranked 4543 p4p, 4454 weight class) and Hanung Herman (ranked 433 p4p, 425 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Nicky Rod has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Nicky Rod seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicky Rod!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hanung Herman!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Topper Green and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rod with a lazy takedown attempt
and Herman moves into the clinch.
Rod is trying to break the clinch but Herman is controlling him.
Rod throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Hermans head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Rod.
Herman manages to break the clinch.
Rod really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rod dives in and grabs Herman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Herman pushes down on Rod's head and hops out.
Herman closes the distance and clinches.
Herman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice jab there from Herman.
Herman displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rod.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nicky Rod. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck for Herman with that takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rod moves into the clinch.
Rod misses with a short punch on the inside.
Herman is trying to drag Rod to the mat but Rod just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Rod wants to break free but Herman has control.

Herman gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Herman is working for a submission of some sort.

Rod is trying to maintain the position but Herman is very close to passing his half guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Rod's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Herman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rod does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rod kicks Herman off and gets back to his feet.
Rod moves into range and clinches up with Herman.

Rod throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Herman manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Rod wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Rod throws a punch but it's blocked by Herman.
Herman breaks from the clinch.

Herman takes the fight into the clinch.
Herman is looking to take this one to the mat.
Herman is pressed up against the cage. Rod has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Herman down to the mat. Herman avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Rod throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Herman's waist but Herman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rod off to one side.
Rod dives in for a single leg takedown but Herman sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Rod has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Herman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Herman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Some bone on bone action there as Rod checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Nicky Rod seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Herman counters with a single leg into guard. Rod didn't expect that.
Herman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Herman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Let's hope that Herman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Herman pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Rod shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Herman sprawls well. Herman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rod gets slowly back to his feet.

Herman looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Rod postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Herman is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rod, into his guard.
Rod is working an open guard so Herman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Rod misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rod throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Herman counters with a two punch combo.
Rod shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Herman but Herman pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rod shoots in but no luck this time.
Rod is looking to clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Herman moves into the clinch successfully.
Rod gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Herman.
Herman has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Rod clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rod won't enjoy being in this position. Herman looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Rod is tapping - it's over boys! Herman picks up the submission victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Hanung Herman!
Our winner, Hanung Herman, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
