The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Marrero clinches with his opponent.
Marrero has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ray regains guard immediately. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Marrero (2) vs (0) Ray Ray tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ray is looking for a triangle but Marrero pushes his legs off easily.
Ray is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Marrero defends well. Marrero passes Ray's left leg - he's now in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ray is trying to control but can't.
Marrero seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ray does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Marrero jumps into side control! Marrero wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ray keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ray is trying to control Marrero's posture but Marrero avoids it. Marrero looking to control but instead Ray has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ray is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Marrero's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Marrero's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Marrero (5) vs (4) Ray Ray has the hooks in. Marrero is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Will Ray go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

That's three minutes gone in the round. Ray has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Marrero has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
