Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Banner (ranked 2636 p4p, 3323 weight class) and Bert Newton (ranked 310 p4p, 387 weight class). Bruce Banner has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Banner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bert Newton!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Chris Edwards and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banner lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Newton backs up against the cage.
Banner defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Newton.
Banner with a nice cross.
Newton has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Banner.
Newton on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Banner lands with a hook. Newton tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Newton shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Banner manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Banner is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Doom\'s Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Banner keeping moving, preventing Newton from controlling successfully.
Newton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Banner is keeping the position for now.
Newton trying to control the position from guard on top but Banner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Newton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Banner works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Newton won't allow Banner to get back to his feet.
Banner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Banner pushes Newton off and gets back to his feet.

Banner fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Banner works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Newton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Banner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Newton somewhat.
Newton shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Bruce Banner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bert Newton.
Newton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Banner was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Banner gets a double leg takedown into Newton's guard.
Banner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Banner throwing strikes but missing.
Newton controls Banner momentarily but Banner frees himself.

Banner drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Banner jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Banner throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Banner is in close to Newton's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Newton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Banner is aware though and is defending well.
Banner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Banner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Newton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Banner has managed to get both his arms back between Newton's legs - danger averted.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Newton looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Our spies down at at Oceanian Knuckle Up Dojo inform us that Newton has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Banner stands up and waves to Newton to follow him.

Banner lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Newton sprawling to the canvas. Banner follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Newton hang on?

It looks like Bert Newton has been cut.
Banner works his foot free and advances to mount.

Banner looking for a guillotine from mount but Newton is having none of it.
Banner cracks Newton with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Banner pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Newton is rocked!
Banner cracks Newton with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bruce Banner!
