PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Master Leader (ranked 2489 p4p, 5750 weight class) and Ricardo Esponosa (ranked 253 p4p, 491 weight class). Leader kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Champions - Kanye West (ft Travis Scott, Quavo, etc…). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Master Leader!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricardo Esponosa!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Esponosa clinches.
Leader lands a right hand.
Esponosa tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Leader just stands there and leans against the cage.
Esponosa is trying to pull guard but Leader turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Esponosa avoids a wild elbow strike from Leader.

Esponosa lands a takedown into guard.
Leader is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Esponosa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Leader is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Esponosa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Leader as he jumps to the side.

Leader throws a series of strikes that have Esponosa backpedaling.

Esponosa is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Master Leader is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Leader lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Leader keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Esponosa dives in and grabs Leader's left leg, looking for a takedown. Leader pushes down on Esponosa's head and hops out.
Esponosa takes a jab right on the kisser.
Leader pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Leader lands with a nice body punch.
Esponosa misses with an uppercut.
Esponosa slips a jab from Leader.
Leader throws a looping overhand right but Esponosa ducks down to avoid it.
Leader throws a body punch but Esponosa moves out of range.
Donk. Leader catches Esponosa right on the button with a cross.
Esponosa on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Esponosa slips a straight right by Leader.
Esponosa shoots in for a takedown but Leader shows good takedown defense.
Esponosa fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Leader looks to land a left hand but Esponosa moved out of range nicely.
Leader throws a lazy uppercut

and Esponosa counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Leader can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Esponosa controls the pace.

Leader is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Esponosa is aware though and is defending well.
Esponosa passes Leader's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Esponosa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Leader does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Leader is defending against the submission attempts here by Esponosa.

Leader is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Esponosa pulls his head out easily.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Master Leader dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Esponosa bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Esponosa displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Leader throws out the jab.

Esponosa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Leader, pushing him back against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Leader creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Leader throws a punch but it's blocked by Esponosa.
Esponosa is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Leader to keep the fight standing.

Leader fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Leader throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Esponosas head.
Leader scores with a shoulder strike.

Leader breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice shot by Leader.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Esponosa manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Leader is looking to work some ground and pound but Esponosa has wrist control.

Leader has his hands clasped together but Esponosa extends and breaks Leader's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Esponosa.
