The bell rings for round one and we are underway! For Island swings away with a leg kick that misses. Rios closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Rios manages to pull guard.
Rios wants to sweep but no luck. For Island wants to control from the top but Rios keeps moving. For Island loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rios looking to sweep here. No luck so far. For Island looking to pass the guard. Rios working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from For Island. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. For Island controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Rios is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. For Island throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Rios feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. For Island working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rios doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but For Island is tightening it up a little... Rios has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Rios reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Rios taps out! Nice BJJ there by For Island!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Too Young For Island!
