PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Minor Cuevas (ranked 2362 p4p, 3474 weight class) and Gaetano Villacci (ranked 287 p4p, 393 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Minor Cuevas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gaetano Villacci!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Cuevas does no damage.
Cuevas is breathing heavily.
Cuevas lunges at Villacci with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Villacci's hand.
Villacci moves forwards but Cuevas connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Villacci takes one to the chin there.
Cuevas rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Villacci counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Cuevas down! Villacci is looking to finish but Cuevas is intelligently defending himself.
Villacci slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Cuevas avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Villacci.
Villacci is working to tighten his grip on Cuevas's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Cuevas has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Villacci is really squeezing tight and eventually Cuevas passes out! Villacci breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Gaetano Villacci!
