PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Donnie Jones (ranked 4810 p4p, 4514 weight class) and Berat Mr (ranked 421 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Donnie Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Berat Mr!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mr dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Mr's head and hops out.
Jones thows a left - swing and a miss!

Mr shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jones napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Mr in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Mr decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Jones scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Mr sneaks out the side door and pushes Jones away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Mr lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Mr shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Mr swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Mr avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jones wants to control from the top but Mr keeps moving.
Mr utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mr is proving hard to escape from.
Mr working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jones.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mr tries to clinch up.

Mr rushes Jones and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Donnie Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Berat Mr.
Jones misses with an elbow strike.
Jones tries to work over Mr's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Mr is pressed up against the cage. Jones has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mr down to the mat. Mr avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Mr clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage.
Jones throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Mr jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Mr looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Jones has picked Mr up and slammed him! Mr can't keep hold of the triangle and Jones manages to pass to side control!

Mr is looking for a sweep.
Mr is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jones is controlling him well.
Mr is not content to let Jones control the position.
Jones misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Mr sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Mr keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Mr has hold of Jones's hands but Jones slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mr is controlling Jones's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Jones throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mr does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones wants to stand but Mr has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mr keeps working.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mr shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Mr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mr looks winded!
Mr darts in looking for a takedown but Jones gets double underhooks and turns Mr into the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Berat Mr will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Jones is pressing down on Mr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mr is holding on for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Donnie Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Poor strikes thrown by Jones there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Mr wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Jones.
Jones throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mr because Jones loaded up on that one.

Mr sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Mr is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mr is breathing heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jones thows a huge punch but Mr dodges it nicely.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mr sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mr is defended easily by Jones.

Jones feints and as Mr raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones wants to stand but Mr has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Mr is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jones with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jones throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Jones won't allow Mr to sweep him here.
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mr on his heels. He'll look to pass Mr's guard now, I'm sure.

Jones stands and throws Mr's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Donnie Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Jones has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Mr is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Jones yanks on the arm and Mr is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Jones.
