PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Angus Young (ranked 131 p4p, 431 weight class) and Jorge Baroza (ranked 6 p4p, 30 weight class). Jorge Baroza will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Angus Young!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jorge Baroza!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Young rushes Baroza and presses him up against the cage.

Baroza's coach down at Freaky Fight Club was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Baroza's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Baroza avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Baroza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Young tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Baroza paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Baroza was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Young throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Baroza feints a counter leg kick.

Young shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Baroza manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Young is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Baroza is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Baroza not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Young is fighting to break Baroza's control of his arms but Baroza is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Young throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Baroza was covering up waiting for the punch and Young finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Young is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Baroza controls Young momentarily but Young frees himself.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Young wants to control from the top but Baroza keeps moving.
Young stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Baroza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Baroza is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Young with a body shot.
Young is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Baroza! But no joy.
Young shoots in but Baroza avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Young stalling.
Young tries to pass to full mount but Baroza defends it.
Still in half guard, Young seems content to control.
Young is trying to control. Baroza wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Young shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Baroza as he avoids it easily.

and Baroza counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Young gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Baroza blocks an elbow strike from Young.
Young tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Baroza just stands there and leans against the cage.

Young has a takedown stuffed.
Baroza feints a counter leg kick.

A little jabbing left from Baroza on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

and Baroza makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Young really felt that one!

Young backing away here, and Baroza unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Young is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Baroza can do to turn this around?
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Young wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Baroza, who protects the arm well.

Young is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Baroza is trying to escape and Young transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Baroza is forced to tap! Nice work there by Young! Very nice indeed!
