PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Rome (ranked 633 p4p, 925 weight class) and Yodsingkhun Sitsongrit (ranked 77 p4p, 104 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 23 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Yodsingkhun Sitsongrit!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rome feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rome tries to free his leg and advance position but Sitsongrit is retaining full guard.
Rome forces his way into half guard.
Rome tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sitsongrit knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Rome takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rome is looking for a kimura but Sitsongrit is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rome to get the leverage.
Rome wants to pass the guard but Sitsongrit is defending well.
Rome moves nicely into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sitsongrit can't do much from the bottom here.

Rome goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sitsongrit has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rome but great work by Sitsongrit.
Rome tries to bench press Sitsongrit off him but Sitsongrit keeps the position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sitsongrit in particular looking to stall.
Rome moves into full guard.

Rome has his foot on Sitsongrit's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sitsongrit works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Rome has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sitsongrit can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sitsongrit wants to control from the top but Rome keeps moving.

Rome is refusing to be controlled, as Sitsongrit sits in half guard.

Rome moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Sitsongrit takes a swing at Rome's ribcage but misses.

Sitsongrit throws a lazy right hand but Rome sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Rome looks for a takedown but Sitsongrit sprawls well.
Sitsongrit misses the shot to the body.

Rome gets the takedown into side control.
Sitsongrit is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Sitsongrit takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Rome thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rome is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sitsongrit can do to turn this around?

You can see the frustration on Sitsongrit's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sitsongrit misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Rome is looking to take a break and control but Sitsongrit is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sitsongrit struggling a bit here.
Sitsongrit might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rome haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
