Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pekka Pouta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wanderlei Rua!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shirou Masuda and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pouta doesn't manage to clinch there - Rua circles away.
Pouta darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Pouta is looking to take a break and control but Rua is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rua regains full guard. Nicely done.
Rua bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pouta's guard.
Pouta keeping moving, preventing Rua from controlling successfully.
Rua tries to free his leg and advance position but Pouta is retaining full guard.
Pouta looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rua is one step ahead there.
Rua pushes down on Pouta's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Rua passes to side control.
Pouta is trying to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rua controlling the position from side mount.
Rua is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pouta has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rua trying to control the position but Pouta is working away.
Rua working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Pouta is pushing Rua's head away, looking to escape. Rua manages to hold on to the position though.
Rua tries to move to mount but Pouta blocks the move with his legs.
Pouta is not content to let Rua control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rua working away.
Pouta knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rua on the ground.
Pouta is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Pouta struggling a bit here.
Rua is working to tighten is grip on Pouta's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Pouta has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Rua is really squeezing tight and eventually Pouta passes out! Rua breaks the hold and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
