The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mertel tries to clinch there but Jitani circles away.
A slow jab from Jitani misses its intended target.
It looked like Mertel was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Mertel scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Jitani walks into a straight right hand from Mertel.
Mertel throws a nice looking combination but Jitani bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mertel misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jitani.
Jitani throws the left hand but Mertel avoids the punch easily.
Mertel goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

It looks like Errol Jitani has been cut.
Mertel dips to his left and cracks Jitani with an uppercut!

No joy there for Mertel, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Mertel counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Mertel closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Jitani chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mertel can pounce on him.

Jitani walks into a jab.
The fighters circling - Jitani throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Mertel half committed to a counter leg kick.
Mertel defending well as Jitani loads up on a big left hand.
Jitani waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mertel.
Jitani uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Mertel has time to react.
Jitani misses with a right hand
and Mertel counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Mertel looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Jitani throws a hook but Mertel blocks it.
Mertel throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Jitani stumbling backwards into the cage! Jitani bounces back off the cage towards Mertel, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Mertel lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Mertel celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
