This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 30 wins and 31 losses; Shanti Anatta! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Gregory Folan.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Cruz darts in looking for a takedown but Anatta gets double underhooks and turns Cruz into the cage. Anatta drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Cruz defends it well. Cruz tries for a takedown but Anatta manages to get underhooks.
Anatta is defending well against a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darian Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cruz drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Anatta gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Cruz gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Cruz (2) vs (0) Anatta Anatta not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Anatta is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cruz is aware though and is defending well. Cruz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Cruz avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've been hearing good reports from Cruz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Cruz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz slips nicely into half guard. Anatta tries to get to full guard but Cruz has control of the leg. Anatta wants to improve his position but Cruz is controlling well.

Cruz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Anatta has managed to free his arm - good work. Anatta is looking for a sweep. Cruz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Anatta manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Cruz is fighting to break Anatta's control of his arms but Anatta is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Anatta escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cruz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Cruz tries to free his leg and advance position but Anatta is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Anatta not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Anatta wants to sweep but no luck. Anatta looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Cruz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Anatta dives on top into guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Cruz (2) vs (2) Anatta Cruz is looking for a triangle but Anatta pushes his legs off easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Anatta escapes and throws Cruz's legs to the side, diving into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Cruz (2) vs (5) Anatta Cruz tries to improve position but can't. Cruz is not content to let Anatta control the position. Cruz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Anatta wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Anatta is looking to take a break and control but Cruz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. You can see the frustration on Cruz's face as Anatta controls the position. Cruz wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Anatta has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Cruz's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Cruz is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Anatta!
