PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Al McTurkey (ranked 4180 p4p, 4031 weight class) and Aarav Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 255 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Al McTurkey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aarav Gordon!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Jonathan Paton and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McTurkey missing with a left hand there. Gordon was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
McTurkey misses with a looping right.
Gordon with the counter takedown but McTurkey avoids it easily.
McTurkey misses with a hook

and Gordon counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Gordon controlling the action here.
Gordon tries to pass the half guard into mount. McTurkey knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McTurkey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gordon moves nicely into side control.
Gordon looks up at the clock and then as McTurkey takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Gordon smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Gordon tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Gordon moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gordon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McTurkey, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McTurkey trying to remain calm as Gordon controls from the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McTurkey is not content to let Gordon control the position.
Gordon slows the pace down.
Gordon throws an elbow but McTurkey slips to the side and avoids it well.
Gordon misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Gordon tries for a kimura but McTurkey is defending well.

Gordon is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Aarav Gordon dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

McTurkey throws an overhand right that lands on Gordon's shoulder, as Gordon tries to avoid the shot.
McTurkey throws a series of punches but Gordon moves out of range.
McTurkey misses with a looping right.
Gordon drops down looking to force a counter takedown but McTurkey defends it well.

McTurkey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gordon on the ground.
Gordon tries to free his leg and advance position but McTurkey is retaining full guard.

Gordon just content to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gordon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McTurkey has escaped the position, nice work there.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Gordon lands a few punches from side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Gordon is continuing to stall.
Let's hope that Gordon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
McTurkey is not content to let Gordon control the position.

Gordon staying calm.
You can see the frustration on McTurkey's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gordon happy to just control the position for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
McTurkey throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gordon displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as McTurkey throws out the jab.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McTurkey scores with a nice head shot.
Gordon takes a jab right on the kisser.

Gordon throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. McTurkey was covering up waiting for the punch and Gordon finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Gordon pushing down on McTurkey's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Gordon has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gordon is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Gordon extends the arm and McTurkey is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Aarav Gordon!
In his post fight interview, Aarav Gordon started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
