PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Corwin Anstey (ranked 2025 p4p, 3550 weight class) and Zhandouji Quantou (ranked 262 p4p, 412 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corwin Anstey!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zhandouji Quantou!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anstey throws a solid leg kick but Quantou takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Anstey.
Anstey fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Anstey dives in and grabs Quantou's left leg, looking for a takedown. Quantou pushes down on Anstey's head and hops out.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Quantou is defended easily by Anstey.
Anstey is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Quantou darts in looking for a takedown but Anstey gets double underhooks and turns Quantou into the cage.

Anstey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Quantou's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Quantou can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anstey content to stall in guard here.
Anstey is pushing down on Quantou's leg trying to pass to half guard. Quantou is fighting to maintain full guard but Anstey has managed to sneak the leg through.
Quantou felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Quantou wants to sweep but Anstey has passed to side control!
Quantou is looking to reverse the position.
Anstey looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Quantou is avoiding damage well.
Anstey has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Anstey wants to take a breather but Quantou manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Anstey.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Anstey's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Quantou bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Anstey's guard.

Anstey wants to sweep but no luck.
Anstey controlling Quantou's posture.

Anstey working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Quantou doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Quantou manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Quantou is stalling in the full guard.
Quantou trying to control the position from guard on top but Anstey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Anstey is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Anstey has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Anstey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Quantou looking to sit in guard and control but Anstey gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Anstey cracks Quantou with a solid left hand.
Quantou keeping full guard, as Anstey tries to pass.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Quantou keeping moving, preventing Anstey from controlling successfully.
Anstey passes Quantou's left leg - he's now in half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Quantou tries for a takedown but Anstey circles away easily

and Anstey counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anstey is looking to take a break and control but Quantou is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Quantou is trying to control but can't.
Anstey passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Quantou!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anstey prevents Quantou from getting the reversal.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big strike lands for Anstey! That's really hurt Quantou and he's turned his back - Anstey keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Anstey jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Corwin Anstey!

After winning the bout, Corwin Anstey thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
