PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Van Lang (ranked 5256 p4p, 25699 weight class) and Jun Okura (ranked 495 p4p, 553 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Van Lang has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Van Lang seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Francis DeMontford and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Okura pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Okura dives in and grabs Lang's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lang pushes down on Okura's head and hops out.
Okura shoots in looking for a takedown. Lang tries to sprawl out of it but Okura keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lang manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Van Lang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jun Okura.
Okura changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lang tries to avoid it but Okura manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lang to the ground. Lang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Okura's coach down at Rabid Dog was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Okura's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lang finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Okura fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lang pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Okura takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

It looks like Jun Okura has been cut.
Lang turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Lang tries a head kick but it misses.
Okura with the counter takedown but Lang avoids it easily.
Okura throws a combination. Lang tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Okura misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We've been told by Lang's head coaches at BANZAI COMBAT ACADEMY HELSINKI that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Van Lang is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Lang looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

A solid leg kick lands there for Lang.

Lang does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Lang lands with a nice body kick.
Lang fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Okura.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Okura.
Lang plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Lang keeps the fight on the outside.
Okura's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Okura shoots in but no luck this time.
Lang buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Okura takes a kick to the side of the head.

Lang throws a low kick but Okura avoids it.

and Lang makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Okura fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lang avoids it really well and circles away.
Okura moves out of range of the leg kick from Lang.

Jun Okura seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lang thows a body kick. Okura tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lang appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

Okura tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lang paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Okura tries for a takedown but Lang sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Okura fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Okura is breathing heavily.
Lang scores with a kick to the body.
Lang throws a solid leg kick but Okura takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Lang.
And Okura tries to counter it with a takedown but Lang pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Okura looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lang is fending him off so far but Okura persists. Nope, Lang circles away and we're back to standing.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with each other but Okura might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Lang has got the better of the exchanges.

Lang lands a big head kick that sends Okura tumbling to the mat! Lang takes a step backwards and waves Okura back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Lang! Okura is out on his feet! Lang rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Okura is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Okura is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
