PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kimmo Peramaki (ranked 1102 p4p, 4918 weight class) and Diego Hageman (ranked 124 p4p, 446 weight class). Diego Hageman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 18 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kimmo Peramaki! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 29 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Hageman! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hageman moves in looking to clinch but Peramaki pushes him off. Peramaki gets caught flat footed, as Hageman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Peramaki will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Hageman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Hageman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Peramaki has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hageman has managed to get both his arms back between Peramaki's legs - danger averted. We've been hearing good reports from Peramaki's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Hageman looking to pass the guard. Peramaki tries to strike from the bottom.
Peramaki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hageman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Peramaki working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hageman. Hageman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Peramaki manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hageman has Peramaki in his guard.
Peramaki has gone for a leg lock! Hageman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Peramaki's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peramaki is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Peramaki looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hageman missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Peramaki is looking to cinch up a triangle. Hageman throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Peramaki's body to avoid the submission. Peramaki has instead reached around Hageman's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Peramaki arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Kimmo Peramaki! Kimmo Peramaki is the new lightweight champion!
