Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Minor Cuevas (ranked 2566 p4p, 2300 weight class) and Booby Soul (ranked 320 p4p, 293 weight class). Soul has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Booby Soul has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Minor Cuevas's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Minor Cuevas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Booby Soul! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cuevas sizes up Soul with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Soul fails to land with a series of punches.
Soul looks winded! Cuevas looks to land a right hand but Soul moved out of range. Cuevas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Soul misses with a body shot.
Soul steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cuevas. Soul throws out a counter right but Cuevas avoids it with no problem. Soul uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cuevas. Soul looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Cuevas uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Soul.
Cuevas fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Soul on the side of the head. Cuevas is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Soul. Cuevas looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cuevas fails to land with a series of punches.
Cuevas avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Cuevas throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cuevas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Soul misses with a lunging right hand
and Cuevas counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Cuevas's corner calls for a 1-2. Cuevas obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Cuevas scores with a nice strike. Cuevas jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cuevas lands a jab to the head.
Soul is rocked! Cuevas swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Soul is still on wobbly legs! Can Cuevas finish him? Cuevas misses with an uppercut. Soul saw that one coming. Nice defenses there by Cuevas. Soul seems to have recovered his senses. Cuevas misses with a two punch combination.
Cuevas thows a left - swing and a miss! Soul scores with a jab to the body. Soul looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Soul is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cuevas. Cuevas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cuevas looks to land a left hand but Soul moved out of range nicely. Cuevas bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Cuevas pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Soul blocks a jab. Cuevas throws a one two combo.
Soul ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cuevas moves away. Cuevas tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Soul manages to circle out of the way. Soul defending well as Cuevas loads up on a big left hand. Soul looks like he wants to counter punch here. Cuevas throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Soul counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Soul swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cuevas throws a hook to the side of Soul's head but Soul sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Soul fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The crowd cheers as Cuevas lands an impressive looking overhand right. Soul doesn't seem phased though. Cuevas pounces like a tiger and cracks Soul with a vicious hook! Soul is down but not out! Cuevas follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Minor Cuevas! Our winner, Minor Cuevas, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
