Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eduardo Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gian Matteo Ranzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Costa might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Head Dance. Gian Matteo Ranzi will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eduardo Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gian Matteo Ranzi!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Costa throws a push kick but Ranzi slaps the foot to one side.
Costa throws a nice looking combination but Ranzi bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ranzi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Costa shoots in and drives through. Ranzi sprawls well.
Costa shoots in for a takedown but Ranzi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Ranzi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Costa paws at him with a jab and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ranzi leaves Costa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Costa looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Costa wants to take a breather but Ranzi is having none of it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Costa misses with a takedown attempt - Ranzi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ranzi closes the distance but Costa moves to the side

so Costa counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Costa controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Costa wants to get up but he can't break Ranzi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Costa postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ranzi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Costa defends well.

Costa shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ranzi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Ranzi has his foot on Costa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Costa works his way back into a safe position though.

Costa is looking to take a break and control but Ranzi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Ranzi is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ranzi is looking to advance position but Costa won't allow it.
Costa keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Ranzi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Costa is just riding it out for now. Ranzi eventually gives up the hold.

Ranzi is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Costa has managed to free his arm - good work.
Costa moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Ranzi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Costa dives on top into guard.
Costa distracts Ranzi with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Costa loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Costa stands and steps away. Ranzi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Ranzi leaves Costa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Costa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ranzi's guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Ranzi has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Costa doesn't defend quickly enough and Ranzi has managed to lock this one up! Can Costa escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Ranzi on a fantastic submission victory.
