PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Stevie Hanselman (ranked 1579 p4p, 3043 weight class) and Scottie Lamez (ranked 128 p4p, 198 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Scottie Lamez!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lamez looks to land a left hand but Hanselman moved out of range nicely.
A slow jab from Lamez misses its intended target.

Hanselman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lamez's guard.

Hanselman lands a couple of digs.
Lamez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Lamez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hanselman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lamez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hanselman haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Lamez keeping moving, preventing Hanselman from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lamez is trying to control the position but Hanselman postures up.
Lamez has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Hanselman works over Lamez with some ground and pound from guard.

Hanselman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lamez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hanselman is looking to work some ground and pound but Lamez has wrist control.
Hanselman is fighting to break Lamez's control of his arms but Lamez is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Lamez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hanselman lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hanselman tries to free his leg and advance position but Lamez is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hanselman throws a big right hand that misses.
Lamez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hanselman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Hanselman misses with a few strikes there.
Lamez looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Hanselman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hanselman wants to pass to mount but Lamez is defending the position.
Lamez is looking to control Hanselman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lamez avoid being mounted?

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lamez is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Hanselman is staying active.
Hanselman scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Lamez trying to hold on to Hanselman's head to control him but Hanselman postures up.
Lamez gets back to full guard.
Lamez wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Hanselman is now in half guard.

We've been hearing that Hanselman has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Hanselman avoids the attempt from Lamez to control.

Lamez tries to lock up and control but Hanselman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hanselman connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Lamez is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hanselman landing strikes from the mount and Lamez is in trouble!
Lamez is still in real trouble! Can Hanselman finish him?
Hanselman unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Lamez wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Hanselman celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
