PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Stone (ranked 4189 p4p, 4186 weight class) and Monte Leonard (ranked 0 p4p, 437 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Monte Leonard!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Leonard stuns Stone with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Leonard shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Stone is trying to defend but Leonard finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Stone is trying to get back to full guard.
Leonard is taking a breather. Stone says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stone is doing well to control the position and prevent Leonard from advancing to side control.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Leonard lands a nice short elbow.

Leonard takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Stone tries to roll over but Leonard keeps him under control.

Stone is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Leonard pulls his head out easily.
Stone keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Leonard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stone. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Leonard is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Leonard is pressing down on Stone's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stone is holding on for now.
Stone is looking to control Leonard's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stone avoid being mounted?
Leonard is looking to advance position but Stone won't allow it.
Leonard trying to control the action but Stone is working from the bottom.

Leonard chips away with some ground and pound.

Leonard controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Leonard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Leonard throws a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leonard stands up over Stone, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Leonard throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Leonard in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Stone controls Leonard momentarily but Leonard frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Leonard lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Leonard postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Leonard looking to pass the guard.
Leonard makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Leonard trying to control but Stone is working from the bottom.
Leonard not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Leonard trying to control the position from guard on top but Stone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Monte Leonard dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Leonard misses with the combination.
Stone tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Leonard swivels and escapes.

Leonard feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Stone manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Leonard has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Leonard pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Leonard shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stone is looking to control Leonard's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stone avoid being mounted?

Leonard slips a nice elbow through Stone's hands, connecting with Stone's forehead.

Leonard drops an elbow to the side of Stone's head.
Leonard working over Stone with some ground and pound. Stone looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Stone is concentrating on defense, preventing Leonard from advancing position.
Leonard is pressing down on Stone's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stone is holding on for now.

Stone moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Leonard wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Leonard postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Oh Stone is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Leonard arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Stone's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
