Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Matthews (ranked 4203 p4p, 4211 weight class) and Brian Shultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matthews drives through and clinches with Shultz against the cage.

Shultz breaks the clinch.
Shultz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Matthews swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Matthews shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shultz as he avoids it easily.
Shultz swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Shultz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Matthews manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Matthews holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Matthews - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Shultz.
Matthews tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shultz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Matthews somewhat.
And Shultz responds with a good body kick, but Matthews manages to step out the way in time.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shultz connects with a nice short shot to Matthews's temple.

Shultz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Matthews defends it well.

I would just about give that final round to Brian Shultz.
Well Matthews has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
