PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bas Anderson (ranked 3344 p4p, 4025 weight class) and Sidi Mbare (ranked 0 p4p, 460 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Bas Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sidi Mbare!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Andrew Berry and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anderson gets tackled into the cage by Mbare. Mbare maintains the clinch.
Anderson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mbare is defending well for now.
Mbare lands a hook that snaps the head of Anderson backwards.

Mbare pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mbare moves into the clinch.

Mbare jumps guard.
Mbare is looking to stand back up but Anderson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Mbare.
Mbare really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Anderson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mbare has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Anderson is on him like a limpet, forcing Mbare back against the cage.

Mbare breaks from the clinch.
Anderson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Mbare takes the fight into the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mbare tries to pull guard but Anderson forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Mbare lands a left hand.

Anderson has had enough of the clinch but Mbare keeps him there for the moment.
Mbare tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Anderson just stands there and leans against the cage.

Mbare pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mbare clinches.
Mbare just leaning against Anderson, taking a breather.

Mbare is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Mbare is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Anderson dives into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anderson wants to control but Mbare is keeping him busy.

Mbare is looking to get back to his feet here but Anderson is keeping cool and he's managed to take Mbare's back.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Anderson controlling the positon.

Anderson looking to break Mbare's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Mbare remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Anderson will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

A close round but Sidi Mbare will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Anderson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Anderson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Anderson tries to free his leg and advance position but Mbare is retaining full guard.

Anderson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Mbare squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anderson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mbare to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mbare shrugs it off.

Anderson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Anderson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Anderson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mbare manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Mbare is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mbare is trying to get back to his feet.
Mbare tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Mbare is trying to get back to his feet but Anderson has full control of the position and if anything, Mbare has just worked his way into a worse spot.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

A short body shot lands from Mbare as the two fighters clinch.
Mbare scores with a nice hook to the head.

Mbare is trying to pull guard but Anderson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Sidi Mbare seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Mbare throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Andersons head.

Anderson wants to control from the top but Mbare keeps moving.
Mbare wants to get back to his feet but Anderson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Bas Anderson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mbare can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Anderson's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Mbare breaks the clinch.

Mbare drives through and clinches with Anderson against the cage.
Mbare stalling in the clinch.

Mbare pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mbare clinches up with Anderson and pushes him back against the cage.

Mbare jumps into guard, dragging Anderson to the mat.
Anderson prevents Mbare from getting back to his feet.
Anderson is standing up over Mbare. Mbare looks to escape but Anderson dives into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anderson prevents Mbare from escaping the position.
Mbare tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Mbare trying to get back to his feet but Anderson is in full control for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Sidi Mbare comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mbare has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
