PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Master Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Belfort!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Master Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belfort misses with a two punch combination.
Belfort throws the kick towards the body but Gracie avoids it.
Belfort throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease.
Belfort tries to land a front kick but Gracie steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Belfort stuffs the takedown.

Belfort feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Belfort trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gracie's guard.
Gracie preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Belfort avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Belfort would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Belfort wants to stand and escape but instead Gracie has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Belfort thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Gracie passes into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie is keen to just control but Belfort is a slippery customer.
Belfort wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Belfort works his way to full guard. Good work.
Gracie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Belfort's guard.
Belfort is breathing heavily.
Belfort throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Belfort sees it coming and defends easily.
Belfort won't allow Gracie to pass to mount.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Belfort defends the submission attempt.
Belfort is trying to stand up here but Gracie is controlling him well.
Belfort is not content to let Gracie control the position.
Gracie drops an elbow to the side of Belfort's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie prevents Belfort from improving his position.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Belfort looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belfort tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Gracie is trying to control the action in half guard but Belfort is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Belfort tries a low kick but Gracie avoids it.
Belfort tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gracie drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Belfort looking for a guillotine here but Gracie defends easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Belfort works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Belfort has his foot on Gracie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracie works his way back into a safe position though.

Belfort isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Gracie stacks Belfort on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Gracie!

Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Belfort has escaped the position, nice work there.
Belfort manages to get back to half guard.
Gracie seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Belfort lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Belfort flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Gracie is pressing down on Belfort's thigh, looking to free his foot. Belfort is holding on for now.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Belfort defends the submission attempt.
Belfort trying to control here.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Belfort is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.
Gracie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Belfort's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Master Gracie dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Belfort throws a right and a left that both miss.

Belfort shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Belfort raining down shots from the mount!
Gracie is trying desperately to improve position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Belfort working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Gracie looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Belfort! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Vitor Belfort!
