PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Howlett (ranked 1238 p4p, 494 weight class) and Saurabh Pandeya (ranked 137 p4p, 62 weight class). Howlett kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Indestructible. Pandeya has chosen Clan In Da Front as his entrance music. Saurabh Pandeya has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Howlett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Saurabh Pandeya!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pandeya bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Howlett's head backwards.
Howlett blocks a leg kick.
Howlett feinted with a counter takedown.
Howlett ducks under a wild hook from Pandeya.
Howlett shoots in for a takedown but Pandeya shows good takedown defense.
Howlett tries to clinch but Pandeya moves out of range.
Howlett takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Pandeya has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Pandeya lands with a hook. Howlett tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Howlett ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Howlett needs to keep his hands up - Pandeya had a free shot at his head there.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Howlett. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pandeya fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Howlett.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Howlett fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pandeya avoids it really well and circles away.

Pandeya lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Howlett drops back looking for a leg! Pandeya is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pandeya manages to kick Howlett off! Howlett jumps back into Pandeya's guard.

Pandeya is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Howlett is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Pandeya is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Pandeya lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Pandeya drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Howlett manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pandeya has Howlett in his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Howlett is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pandeya is just riding it out for now. Howlett eventually gives up the hold.

Pandeya has control of Howlett's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Howlett regains control of the situation pretty easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Horrible takedown attempt by Howlett or perhaps it was just good defense by Pandeya, which made it look bad.

Pandeya is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Howlett defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

I would just about give that final round to Saurabh Pandeya.
Well Pandeya has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
