Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Remy LeBeau! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anderson Sebastiao Cardoso! The judges for this bout are , and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! LeBeau lands a really nice looking cross but Cardoso seems unphased.
LeBeau tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cardoso paws at him with a jab and circles away. Cardoso gets a takedown into half guard. Cardoso not landing any meaningful shots this time. Cardoso is looking for a kimura but LeBeau is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cardoso to get the leverage. Cardoso missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. LeBeau blocking the ground and pound attempt from Cardoso. Cardoso looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
LeBeau works his way to full guard. Good work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. LeBeau pulls Cardoso in close to his closed guard and prevents Cardoso from doing any damage or advancing position. LeBeau on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if LeBeau tries to get out of the position. LeBeau manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cardoso manages to get himself to full guard.
Cardoso has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cardoso looking to hit a scissor sweep but LeBeau is one step ahead there. Cardoso thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Cardoso is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cardoso has a closed guard, preventing LeBeau from standing up. Cardoso is looking for a triangle here but LeBeau uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Cardoso looks gassed! LeBeau remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. LeBeau decides to stand back up. Cardoso takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. LeBeau cracks Cardoso with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. LeBeau drops Cardoso with a left and a right! Oh, Cardoso is hurt - LeBeau dives into side control looking to finish!
Cardoso is rocked!
It looks like Anderson Sebastiao Cardoso has been cut. The referee asks LeBeau politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. LeBeau prefers to stall for the moment though. Cardoso is trying to improve his position. LeBeau slows the pace down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cardoso is positioning himself to get back to half guard. LeBeau takes a little break here. Cardoso wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. LeBeau decides to stand back up. LeBeau steps back and let's Cardoso get back to his feet. Good standup being displayed there by LeBeau as he connects with a hook. Cardoso takes one to the chin there. LeBeau tries to clinch up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cardoso takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. LeBeau scores with a jab. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cardoso closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Cardoso takes a jab right on the kisser.
Cardoso is still on wobbly legs! Can LeBeau finish him? LeBeau lands a left and a right that sends Cardoso crashing to the canvas! LeBeau dives into mount looking to finish! LeBeau prevents Cardoso from getting the reversal. Cardoso seems to have recovered his senses. LeBeau blocks Cardoso's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. LeBeau sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cardoso working to try and regain half guard.
LeBeau takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Remy LeBeau dominated that round. The cut man is working on Anderson Sebastiao Cardoso's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
LeBeau with a nice cross. LeBeau sends Cardoso crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! LeBeau is motioning to the referee to let Cardoso up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet! LeBeau tries to clinch up but Cardoso circles away and keeps his distance. LeBeau is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Nice straight punches there by LeBeau. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of LeBeau. LeBeau lands a big uppercut and Cardoso crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Cardoso looks OK. LeBeau waves Cardoso back to his feet! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! LeBeau rushes Cardoso with punches - Cardoso moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Cardoso goes down! LeBeau follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!
