Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jujitsu John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Santa Cruz!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz misses with a combination
so John counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
John drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and John jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
John passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
John decides to return to a standing position.
Cruz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but John moves away.
John moves forwards but Cruz connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Cruz lands a left and a right that send John crashing to the mat, dazed. Cruz thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
John is rocked!
It looks like Jujitsu John has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cruz looks to land a combination but John avoids it well.
Oh John is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Cruz's coach down at Grapple was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Cruz's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Santa Cruz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
John avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
John tries to counter with a takedown but Cruz is quick to defend against it.
Cruz throws a hook to the side of John's head but John sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
John seems to have got his legs back now.
Cruz lands a right hook to the body.
John definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
John slips a straight right by Cruz.
Cruz throws a series of punches but John moves out of range.
