PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between James Smith (ranked 4607 p4p, 4173 weight class) and Vinsmoke Sanji (ranked 267 p4p, 251 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Vinsmoke Sanji was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vinsmoke Sanji!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in but Sanji avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sanji leaves Smith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sanji wants to counter the offense by Smith and move into the clinch position.

Sanji is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Sanji is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Smith has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Sanji shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Sanji with the ground and pound but Smith uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Sanji throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smith works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smith wants to stand and escape but Sanji is having none of it.
Sanji looking to sit in guard and control but Smith gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Sanji is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Sanji fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Sanji persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Sanji throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Sanji is not content to let Smith control the position.
Smith throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
James Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sanji is looking to improve his position.
Smith is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
