This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 2 losses; Manta Ray! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 1 losses; Rafael Ribeiro! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Ray moves in looking to clinch but Ribeiro pushes him off. Ray closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Ribeiro tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ray just stands there and leans against the cage. Ribeiro decides to pull guard. Ray trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Ribeiro wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Ribeiro is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ribeiro escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ray gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Ray wants to pass the guard but Ribeiro is keeping the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ribeiro pulls Ray in close to his closed guard and prevents Ray from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ray stays in close to Ribeiro's body and controls the position. Ribeiro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ray can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Ray controls from within his opponent's guard. Ribeiro working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ray doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Ribeiro is tightening it up a little... Ray has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Ray reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Ray taps out! Nice BJJ there by Ribeiro!
