PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jordon Grant (ranked 4797 p4p, 5239 weight class) and Miles Silva (ranked 238 p4p, 250 weight class). Silva has chosen Beleza Pula - Masayoshi Takanaka as his entrance music. Miles Silva will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jordon Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Miles Silva!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Silva looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Grant controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Grant throwing strikes but missing.
Grant controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Silva wants to get back to his feet but Grant passes into half guard.
Grant scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Grant stands up and beckons Silva to join him on the feet.

Grant drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Silva can't keep his opponent in guard - Grant advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Grant works his way into side control.

Grant decides to stand back up. Grant steps back and let's Silva get back to his feet.
Grant throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
An inside leg kick from Grant misses.

Grant fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Silva, pushing him back against the cage.
Grant tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Grant has been working on his balance at Tsering Fighting Gym, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Silva.
Grant's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Silva misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Silva is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Grant prevents a body shot from Silva.
Silva dodges an elbow strike from Grant.
Silva gets underhooks to prevent Grant's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jordon Grant. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Grant wants to break free but Silva has control.

Grant ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Grant no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Grant is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Grant controlling the pace.
Grant working the head and body with strikes.
Grant perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Grant stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Silva to get to his feet.

Grant dives in and scores a takedown into Silva's guard.
Silva is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Grant dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grant staying calm.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Silva is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Grant has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Grant looking to score a takedown here. Silva is defending well but Grant drives through and ends up in Silva's guard.
Silva is wriggling around but Grant manages to pass to half guard.

Grant takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Grant seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Grant is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.
Silva now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
A head kick by Grant misses
and Silva counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Grant clinches.
Grant is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Silva can do to turn this around?
A right hand to the body from Silva.
Grant is trying to pull guard but Silva turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Silva tries a body shot but Grant blocks it.
Silva looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Grant tries to break free but Silva pushes him back against the cage.

Grant decides to pull guard.

Silva is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Grant has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Silva is looking to defend but Grant has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Silva! Grant pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Silva taps out and this one is all over!
