PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 23947 p4p, 23897 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 57 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 51 - 49 - 9, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Sapi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mibangon's guard.
Sapi throwing strikes but missing.
Mibangon working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Sapi.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mibangon holds on and takes a little breather.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi is stalling in the full guard.

Sapi postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sapi dives in and grabs Mibangon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mibangon pushes down on Sapi's head and hops out.
Mibangon tried to counter with a leg kick but Sapi avoided it.
Mibangon bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mibangon is defended easily by Sapi.
Mibangon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sapi pinned against the cage. Sapi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sapi counters with a body kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sapi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Mibangon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sapi is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Well, if Sapi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Sapi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mibangon is looking to stand up but Sapi won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mibangon controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapi seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sapi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mibangon can't do much from the bottom here.

Sapi just content to control the position.
Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mibangon tries to buck Sapi off but Sapi is having none of it.
The ground and pound from Sapi seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Mibangon wants to control but Sapi postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sapi shoots for a takedown but Mibangon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sapi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sapi showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mibangon wants to improve his position but Sapi is controlling well.
Mibangon is positioning himself well to prevent Sapi advancing to mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Sapi shoots in but no luck this time.

Mibangon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mibangon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Sapi explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sapi counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

That's one minute gone in the round.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sapi enables Mibangon to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sapi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Sapi has Mibangon pulled in close to control his posture.
Mibangon is stalling in the full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sapi is pulling down on Mibangon's head. It's preventing any offense from Mibangon, at least for the moment.

Mibangon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mibangon won't allow Sapi to sweep him here.

Sapi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mibangon controls the pace.

Minatay Mibangon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Sapi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Sapi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
