PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Kerr (ranked 4402 p4p, 4145 weight class) and Markus Primus (ranked 458 p4p, 447 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Kerr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Markus Primus!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Primus instigates a clinch.

Primus is trying to trip Kerr. He has hold of a leg but Kerr is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Primus persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Kerr working a defensive guard here.
Primus tries to free his leg and advance position but Kerr is retaining full guard.
Kerr seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Primus wants to stand but Kerr has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Primus looking to pass the guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kerr is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kerr continues to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Primus keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Primus throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kerr.
Kerr attempts a counter takedown but Primus avoids it well and moves away.

Primus shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kerr is trying to defend but Primus finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kerr gets full guard.

Primus drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kerr looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kerr looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kerr!

Primus is trying to control Kerr's posture but Kerr avoids it.

The strikes coming from Kerr are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kerr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Primus keeps working.
Kerr really is a fat lump.
Primus is looking for a sweep.
Primus throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Primus is looking to regain half guard here but Kerr keeps moving and retains side control.

You can see the frustration on Primus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Primus can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kerr is trying to get an arm triangle but Primus is defending well.
Kerr content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Primus takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Primus is not content to let Kerr control the position.

Primus tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kerr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Primus keeps working.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Primus shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Markus Primus will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kerr gets tackled into the cage by Primus. Primus maintains the clinch.
Kerr tries to pull guard but Primus holds him up against the cage and eventually Kerr drops back down to his feet.
Primus displaying some good clinch control by pressing Kerr up against the cage.
Kerr throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Primus is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kerr can't fight it off and eventually Primus manages to take the fight to the floor. Kerr looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kerr is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Primus's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kerr shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Primus as he avoids it easily.
Kerr tries to clinch but Primus is having none of it.
And Primus responds with a good body kick, but Kerr manages to step out the way in time.
Kerr is looking to clinch but Primus is avoiding it.

Primus shoots in and gets a takedown into Kerr's guard.
Primus throws a strike but Kerr rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Primus keeping moving, preventing Kerr from controlling successfully.

Kerr drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kerr jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kerr is pushing down on Primus's leg trying to pass to half guard. Primus is fighting to maintain full guard but Kerr has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kerr is working for a kimura but Primus is defending it quite comfortably.
Kerr wants to stand but Primus has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Primus throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Kerr is thwarting Primus's attempts to control the position.
Kerr drops an elbow to the side of Primus's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kerr thows a huge punch but Primus dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Primus is looking for a sweep. Kerr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kerr sitting and controlling from the half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Kerr is looking to clinch but Primus is avoiding it.

Primus shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kerr napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kerr is looking to get back to his feet here but Primus is keeping cool and he's managed to take Kerr's back.
Primus is not going to allow Kerr to sit and survive in this position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Primus is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mark Kerr will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Kerr gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Primus makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Kerr throws a head kick that misses.

Kerr gets tackled into the cage by Primus. Primus maintains the clinch.

Primus pulls guard.
Kerr slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Primus utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Primus looking for a guillotine here but Kerr defends easily.
Primus wants to improve his position but instead Kerr has moved into half guard.

Kerr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Primus keeps working.
Kerr not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Primus wants to get back to full guard but Kerr has passed into side control.
Primus is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kerr has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Kerr wants to stand but Primus is controlling his arm.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kerr advances to mount.
Primus is trying to stand.
Primus is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Kerr trying to control but Primus is having none of it.
Kerr thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Primus defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kerr.

Kerr has control of Primus's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Primus regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kerr wants to finish this one by submission but Primus is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Kerr.
Kerr can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Primus is looking to escape.
Primus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kerr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Primus is trying to escape the mount.

Kerr is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Primus has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Primus is looking to improve his position but Kerr isn't that keen on the idea.
Primus is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Kerr trying to control but Primus is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Primus really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Kerr showed his dominance in that final round.
