Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alejandro Laguera (ranked 4653 p4p, 4199 weight class) and Josh Giddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alejandro Laguera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josh Giddy! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Giddy does no damage. Laguera will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Laguera dives in and grabs Giddy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Giddy pushes down on Laguera's head and hops out. Giddy shoots in but no luck this time. Laguera lands a right hook to the body.
A decent looking cross lands there for Giddy. Alejandro Laguera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Laguera throws a chopping leg kick but Giddy manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Laguera stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Laguera wants it to stay on the feet. The fight stays on the outside here - Giddy looks like he's thinking about clinching though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Laguera misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Giddy.

That's one minute gone in the round. Laguera throws a leg kick that misses. Giddy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Laguera takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Giddy takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Laguera gets a clinch. Giddy on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
A frustrated look appears on Laguera's face as he tries to break the clinch. Giddy tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Laguera just stands there and leans against the cage. Giddy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Laguera avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Giddy changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Laguera fights it off and pushes away nicely.

It looks like Josh Giddy has been cut. Giddy with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Laguera to score with a decent uppercut. Good exchange - Laguera coming out on top. Laguera connects with a body shot. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Laguera. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Laguera looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Laguera changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Laguera scores with a one two! Giddy had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Laguera throws a head kick but Giddy moves out of range.

Laguera is looking to wear down Giddy with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Laguera shoots in and drives through. Giddy sprawls well. Laguera tries a head kick but it misses.
Laguera connects with a solid leg kick. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Giddy is defended easily by Laguera. Laguera just misses with a punch to the body.
Laguera clinches up with Giddy and pushes him back against the cage. Laguera gets control of Giddy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Laguera will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Giddy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Giddy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Laguera swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Laguera seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Laguera controls Giddy momentarily but Giddy frees himself. Giddy is fighting to break Laguera's control of his arms but Laguera is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Alejandro Laguera dominated that round. The cut man is working on Josh Giddy's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Laguera throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Giddy's waist but Giddy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Laguera off to one side. Giddy fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Laguera. Giddy shoots in but Laguera avoids the takedown attempt easily. Laguera defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Giddy. Laguera throws a counter high kick but Giddy was just alert enough to avoid it. Laguera uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Giddy.

Laguera is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Giddy can do to turn this around? Giddy prevents Laguera from breaking the clinch. Laguera jumps into guard, dragging Giddy to the mat.
