Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Burke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burke has chosen Let it Rock as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Mitchell! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Burke! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burke tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mitchell swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mitchell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Burke wants to clinch. Mitchell moves away from the strike by Burke. Burke doesn't manage to clinch there - Mitchell circles away.

Burke tries to close the distance and clinch but Mitchell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Mitchell keeps the fight on the outside. Burke tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mitchell swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mitchell lands a nice hook to Burke's body. Burke takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burke tries to clinch but Mitchell moves out of range. Mitchell connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Burke's hands. Burke dodges the punch combination from Mitchell.

That's one minute gone in the round. Burke throws a sloppy body shot
and Mitchell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Burke takes a shot right to the bread basket. Burke wants to clinch but Mitchell slips to the side and Mitchell counters with a lovely straight right hand! Burke tries to clinch but Mitchell moves away and Mitchell counters with a takedown into side control. Burke wants to get back to his feet but Mitchell drags him back down. Mitchell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Burke keeps working. Burke manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Mitchell looking for submissions off his back. Mitchell looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Mitchell gets back to full guard.
Mitchell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Burke doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Burke manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mitchell working for a triangle but Burke defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Burke passes Mitchell's left leg - he's now in half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Burke wants to stand but Mitchell has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Mitchell looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Burke missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Burke tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mitchell. Burke is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mitchell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Burke. Burke looks gassed! Burke decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burke tries to clinch but Mitchell moves away and Mitchell counters with a nice double leg into side control. Burke won't be happy with that. Mitchell advances to mount. Mitchell has hold of Burke's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Burke manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Burke's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Mitchell seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Burke is holding on tight.
Burke is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mitchell lands with some strikes. Burke is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Mitchell swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Mitchell! James Mitchell is the new welterweight champion!
