Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Karl Stienz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pope Callixtus!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stienz shoots in and drives through. Callixtus sprawls well.
Stienz with a poor takedown

and Callixtus counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Stienz wants to control the position but Callixtus says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Stienz tries to get to full guard but Callixtus has control of the leg.

Callixtus is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
My spies in Cozad The Island inform me that Callixtus has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Stienz wants to improve his position but Callixtus is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Callixtus is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Callixtus closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Callixtus has control of Stienz's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stienz regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stienz can't escape the position.

Stienz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Callixtus sprawls well. Callixtus wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stienz gets slowly back to his feet.

Callixtus thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Callixtus goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Stienz has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Callixtus but great work by Stienz.

Stienz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Stienz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Stienz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Callixtus rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Stienz's guard! Nice work there by Callixtus!

Callixtus tries to free his leg and advance position but Stienz is retaining full guard.
Stienz pulls Callixtus in close to his closed guard and prevents Callixtus from doing any damage or advancing position.

Pope Callixtus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Stienz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Stienz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Karl Stienz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stienz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Callixtus.
Stienz tries to counter by clinching up but Callixtus breaks away and moves out of range.
Stienz seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Callixtus has gone for a leg lock! Stienz slips out almost immediately though and dives into Callixtus's guard.

Callixtus slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Callixtus's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Stienz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Callixtus defends it easily.

Pope Callixtus comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Callixtus has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
