Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vevrin Betlach! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Uri! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Uri changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Betlach looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Uri tries to move to mount but Betlach blocks the move with his legs. Uri wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Betlach, who protects the arm well. Uri tries for a kimura but Betlach is defending well. Uri wants to control for a moment but Betlach uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Uri keeps control of the position for the meantime. Betlach wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Uri wants to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Uri on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Uri wants to control but Betlach passes into side.
Uri seems a little lost for a moment, as Betlach dominates the positioning. Betlach misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Uri tries to get back to half guard but can't. Betlach decides to take the fight back to the feet. Betlach throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Betlach moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Betlach connects with a good right hand that stumbles Uri. Uri circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
It looks like Sam Uri has been cut. Uri tries to keep at a distance but Betlach has taken the fight into the clinch. Betlach's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Betlach manages to break the clinch.
Uri looks for a takedown but Betlach sprawls well. Uri shoots in for a double leg but Betlach sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Betlach throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Betlach gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Betlach breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Betlach closes the distance and pushes Uri back into the cage. Come on Betlach - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Uri changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Betlach tries to avoid it but Uri manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Betlach to the ground. Betlach escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Vevrin Betlach has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Uri. Betlach gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Betlach's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Betlach moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Betlach scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Betlach darts in and clinches Uri up against the cage. Betlach escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Betlach throws a right and a left that Uri avoids nicely. Uri tries to clinch but fails miserably and Betlach moves into the clinch. Betlach escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Uri shoots and misses and Betlach counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Betlach lands a two punch combo.
This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. A jab lands there for Betlach.
Uri is rocked! Betlach connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Uri tumbling to the canvas! Betlach pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Uri was done - good stoppage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Vevrin Betlach! Vevrin Betlach retains his featherweight title!
