PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sparky Anderson (ranked 2831 p4p, 2804 weight class) and Balink Tarlah (ranked 338 p4p, 335 weight class). Anderson comes to the cage accompanied by Pick up man. Balink Tarlah has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Balink Tarlah!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson with a jab.
The fighters circling - Anderson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Anderson has a takedown stuffed.
Tarlah wants to counter with a clinch but Anderson pushes him away.
Anderson doesn't manage to clinch there - Tarlah circles away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Anderson. Tarlah does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tarlah looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Anderson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tarlah on the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anderson connects with a body shot.
Anderson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tarlah sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Anderson somewhat.
It seemed like Tarlah was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Anderson drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tarlah manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Anderson manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Anderson working for a triangle but Tarlah defends it easily.

Anderson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Anderson thows a huge punch but Tarlah dodges it nicely.

Tarlah is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Anderson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tarlah keeps working.

Tarlah makes his way to full guard, as Anderson worked for a kimura.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Tarlah steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Anderson.
Anderson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Despite the aggression on Tarlah's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

and Tarlah counters with a nice double leg into side control. Anderson won't be happy with that.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Tarlah grinds an elbow into Anderson's temple.
Tarlah is looking to take a break and control but Anderson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Tarlah is looking to take a break and control but Anderson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Anderson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Tarlah has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Anderson is working away from the top position though.
Anderson is keen to just control but Tarlah is a slippery customer.
Anderson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Anderson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tarlah defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anderson is keen to just control but Tarlah is a slippery customer.

Sparky Anderson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tarlah is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Anderson tries to free his leg and advance position but Tarlah is retaining full guard.

Tarlah seems keen to control Anderson's posture.
Anderson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tarlah can do to turn this around?

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Tarlah is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Anderson's shoulder. That is not cool.

Tarlah laying and praying for a moment but Anderson takes advantage and regains half guard.

Anderson is controlling Tarlah's posture.
Tarlah not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Tarlah lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Tarlah must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Anderson is trying to control the position from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Tarlah counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Anderson clinches up with Tarlah and pushes him back against the cage.
Anderson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Tarlah is defending well.

Anderson is pressed up against the cage. Tarlah has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Anderson down to the mat. Anderson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown but Tarlah shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sparky Anderson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Anderson looks to land a left hand but Tarlah moved out of range nicely.
Tarlah is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Anderson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Tarlah.
Anderson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A lazy left from Anderson finds it's target.
Anderson lands with an uppercut that bounces Tarlah off the cage and back into range.

Balink Tarlah comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tarlah has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
