PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Marshall (ranked 4001 p4p, 4151 weight class) and DonQuavous Sharwell (ranked 419 p4p, 431 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Marshall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, DonQuavous Sharwell!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jonathan Paton and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sharwell stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Sharwell is trying hard to land a takedown here. Marshall sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Sharwell tries to clinch up.
Sharwell throws a sloppy head kick and Marshall moves out of range easily.
Sharwell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sharwell shoots in but Marshall avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Brandon Marshall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of DonQuavous Sharwell.
Marshall shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sharwell gets a double leg takedown into Marshall's guard.
Sharwell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Sharwell tries to free his leg and advance position but Marshall is retaining full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sharwell trying to control but Marshall is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Marshall slips a jab and a cross from Sharwell.
Marshall tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sharwell swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Marshall fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sharwell defending well as Marshall loads up on a big left hand.
Marshall throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sharwell.
A combination from Marshall does no damage.

Sharwell clinches with his opponent.
Marshall makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Sharwell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Marshall just leaning against Sharwell, taking a breather.

Sharwell jumps guard.
Sharwell wants to sweep here but Marshall controlling him for the moment.
Sharwell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Marshall manages to get himself to full guard.

Marshall wants to stand but Sharwell is controlling the position.

Marshall is breathing heavily.
Sharwell's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Sharwell works over Marshall with some ground and pound from guard.
Sharwell is stalling in the full guard.
Sharwell throws a big right hand that misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Marshall looking for subs off his back but Sharwell has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

DonQuavous Sharwell dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sharwell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
It looked like Marshall was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Sharwell.
Marshall circles away from the clinch attempt.
Marshall seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sharwell or perhaps it was just good defense by Marshall, which made it look bad.

and Marshall counters with an inside leg kick.

Sharwell dives in for a single leg takedown but Marshall sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Sharwell drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Sharwell breaks from the clinch.
Marshall throws a head kick but Sharwell moves out of range.
Marshall slaps away a takedown attempt from Sharwell, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Marshall throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sharwell's waist but Sharwell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marshall off to one side.
A punch combination from Marshall misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Marshall fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sharwell looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Sharwell fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Marshall, pushing him back against the cage.

Marshall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brandon Marshall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sharwell tries to clinch there but Marshall circles away.
Marshall tries to clinch up but Sharwell circles away and keeps his distance.
Sharwell with the counter takedown but Marshall avoids it easily.
Sharwell misses with an attempted mid kick.
Marshall lands with a slapping head kick.
Brandon Marshall is winning the standup battle so far.
Marshall takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Sharwell dives in and grabs Marshall's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marshall pushes down on Sharwell's head and hops out.
A chopping leg kick lands by Marshall.
Brandon Marshall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sharwell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Marshall avoids it really well and circles away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sharwell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sharwell thuds his right hand into Marshall's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Sharwell shoots in looking for a takedown but Marshall manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sharwell's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sharwell looks to clinch
and Marshall counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Marshall tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sharwell was well out of range. Poor timing from Marshall.
It seemed like Sharwell was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Marshall shoots in and gets a takedown into Sharwell's guard.

Sharwell has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Marshall is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Sharwell keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Marshall's efforts to push away.

Sharwell pulls Marshall in close to prevent any damage.

Sharwell is looking for a triangle but Marshall pushes his legs off easily.

Marshall wants to pass the guard but Sharwell is keeping the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sharwell is on top in guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Marshall is working an open guard so Sharwell takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Sharwell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Marshall avoids it really well and circles away.

Sharwell rushes Marshall and presses him up against the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Brandon Marshall will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Sharwell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Marshall as he avoids it easily.
Sharwell shoots in but Marshall avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Marshall misses the shot to the body.
Marshall looks to land a combination but Sharwell avoids it well.

Sharwell instigates a clinch.
Marshall throws a knee to the head but misses.
Sharwell has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Marshall after a bit of a struggle.
Brandon Marshall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of DonQuavous Sharwell.
Sharwell will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Marshall up against the cage.

Marshall tries to score a body lock takedown but Sharwell shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Marshall is looking to control Sharwell's arms but Sharwell gets an underhook and turns him. Now Marshall has his back to the cage.
Marshall has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Sharwell is trying to pull guard but Marshall has him pressed against the cage.
Sharwell prevents a takedown attempt there.
Sharwell prevents Marshall from breaking the clinch.

Marshall turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Sharwell throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Sharwell tries for a takedown but Marshall sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sharwell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Sharwell looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Marshall scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Sharwell manages to mount him!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Marshall tries to control the position but Sharwell now has his back.
Sharwell controls the action.

Sharwell looking to break Marshall's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Marshall remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Sharwell will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Marshall knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sharwell on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sharwell is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Marshall knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Marshall for a finish.
Marshall can't escape the position.
Sharwell slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

DonQuavous Sharwell has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sharwell has the hooks in. Marshall is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

DonQuavous Sharwell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sharwell has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
