PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Larry LeFell (ranked 1269 p4p, 1367 weight class) and Jake Walton (ranked 164 p4p, 174 weight class). Jake Walton will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Larry LeFell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Walton!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Ron Honeybunn and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LeFell fails with an attempt to clinch.

LeFell fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Walton, pushing him back against the cage.

LeFell turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and LeFell manages to end up in side control.

Walton is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Walton tries to bench press LeFell off him but LeFell keeps the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
LeFell is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Walton's shoulder. That is not cool.
LeFell definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walton is looking to reverse the position.

LeFell is trying to get an arm triangle but Walton is defending well.

Walton is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
LeFell remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
You can see the frustration on Walton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
LeFell controls the position.

LeFell tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Walton is looking for a sweep.

Walton keeps trying to improve his position.
Walton wants to control but LeFell postures up.
The referee asks LeFell politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. LeFell prefers to stall for the moment though.

LeFell has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Walton tries to lock up and control but LeFell gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Walton is controlling an arm, preventing LeFell from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Walton has given up his back.
Walton rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Larry LeFell dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Walton lands a jab-cross combination.

It looks like Larry LeFell has been cut.
LeFell wants to clinch but Walton slips to the side
and Walton counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps LeFell thinking.
A decent looking cross lands there for Walton.

LeFell closes the distance and clinches.
Walton misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Walton has had enough of the clinch but LeFell keeps him there for the moment.

Walton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
LeFell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Walton doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Walton circles away from the clinch attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

LeFell has Walton up against the cage in a clinch.

LeFell works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with LeFell in particular looking to stall.
LeFell works his foot free and advances to mount.
LeFell prevents Walton from getting the reversal.
LeFell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
LeFell takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
LeFell has the hooks in. Walton is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Walton is trying to defend against the choke here but LeFell has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. LeFell Tightens the hold and Walton taps out furiously! LeFell displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Larry LeFell!
An out of breath Larry LeFell thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
