PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bjorn Haelfson (ranked 2731 p4p, 4195 weight class) and Erkki Tumminen (ranked 327 p4p, 420 weight class). Haelfson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is 80/20SKYBEEF. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bjorn Haelfson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Erkki Tumminen!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tumminen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Haelfson is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Haelfson moves out of range as Tumminen throws a body kick.
Haelfson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tumminen.
Haelfson appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Tumminen missing with a left hand there. Haelfson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Erkki Tumminen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tumminen lands a body shot.

Nice uppercut lands for Tumminen. That snapped Haelfson's head back.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Tumminen has one foot on Haelfson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Haelfson shoots for a double leg takedown but Tumminen sprawls well. He's pushed Haelfson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Haelfson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Tumminen felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Haelfson wants to work for an arm triangle but Tumminen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tumminen throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Haelfson crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Tumminen - the referee stops the clock and Haelfson gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Tumminen. Haelfson manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Tumminen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A close second round but Erkki Tumminen will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Haelfson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Haelfson chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tumminen can pounce on him.

and Haelfson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Tumminen slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
