PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Pogie (ranked 2873 p4p, 25528 weight class) and Patrick Vanderen (ranked 334 p4p, 551 weight class). Pogie's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Nobody’s Angel. George Pogie has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Pogie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Patrick Vanderen!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, David Schapiro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pogie avoids the head kick by Vanderen.
Pogie swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Pogie on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Pogie shoots for a double leg takedown but Vanderen sprawls well. He's pushed Pogie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Vanderen lands with a nice body kick.
Nice takedown defense from Vanderen. No joy for Pogie on that attempt.
Pogie shoots in but Vanderen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Pogie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vanderen throws a right and a left that Pogie avoids nicely.
A combination from Vanderen does no damage.
Pogie drops down looking for a counter takedown but Vanderen sprawls and moves away.
Pogie has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Vanderen gets off balance looking for a body kick

so Pogie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pogie controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Pogie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pogie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Vanderen keeping moving, preventing Pogie from controlling successfully.

Pogie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pogie trying to control but Vanderen is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Vanderen trying to keep a closed guard but Pogie is proving a slippery customer.
Pogie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Vanderen's guard.
Well, if Pogie is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Vanderen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pogie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pogie works his foot free and advances to mount.
Pogie is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Vanderen is in real trouble.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vanderen is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Pogie gets his way!
What can Vanderen do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Pogie tries to keep control of the position but Vanderen is staying busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pogie is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Vanderen with him. Vanderen is trying to defend but Pogie has an arm under the chin now! Vanderen grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). George Pogie!
