Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Miles Velez (ranked 25637 p4p, 4115 weight class) and Adam Iason (ranked 528 p4p, 425 weight class). Miles Velez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Miles Velez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Adam Iason!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iason defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Velez.
Velez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Iason.
A head kick misses from Velez.
Iason doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Velez moves into the clinch.
Velez tries for a takedown. No joy.

Iason manages to break the clinch.
Velez circles away from the clinch attempt
and Velez counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Iason thinking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Iason has his takedown stuffed
and Velez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Miles Velez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Iason.
Iason misses with a double jab.

Iason throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Iason shoots for a takedown but Velez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Velez counters with a crisp one two that drops Iason! Velez thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Iason to his feet! Iason is in big trouble!

Iason is rocked!

Velez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Iason is still in real trouble! Can Velez finish him?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Iason tries to get to full guard but Velez has control of the leg.
Iason is controlling Velez's trapped leg to prevent Velez from advancing to side control.
Iason seems to have recovered his senses.
Velez wants to get back to his feet.

Velez decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Velez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Iason tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Velez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Velez fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Iason keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Iason gets a clinch.
Iason misses with some punches.
Velez looking to stall.

Iason gets control of Velez's arms and successfully pulls guard. Iason will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Iason has his hands on Velez's head, controlling the position.
Let's hope that Iason has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Velez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Iason has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Velez has managed to get both his arms back between Iason's legs - danger averted.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Velez wants to control from the top but Iason keeps moving.
Iason has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Iason.
Velez is looking for a counter combo.
Iason looks winded!
Velez shoots in but Iason avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Velez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Velez walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Iason checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Adam Iason will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Iason has Velez up against the cage in a clinch.

Velez pulls guard.
Iason advances to half guard.
Iason uses his free foot to push down on Velez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Velez.

Velez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velez is trying to escape the mount.

Velez tries to hold on but Iason postures up.
Iason tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Iason is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Velez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Iason goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Velez is on top in guard.
Velez wants to control from the top but Iason keeps moving.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Iason holds on and takes a little breather.

Iason looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Velez passes into half guard.
Iason keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Iason moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Iason throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Iason has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Iason looking to hit a scissor sweep but Velez is one step ahead there.
Velez trying to control the position from guard on top but Iason is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Iason showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Velez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Iason counters by moving into the clinch.

Iason escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Velez shoots for a takedown but Iason saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miles Velez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Iason throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Velez appears to be looking for a big counter.
Velez swats away the attempt to clinch by Iason.

and Velez counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Iason thinking.

Iason moves into range and clinches up with Velez.
Iason tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Iason manages to break the clinch.
Velez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fight stays on the outside here - Iason looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Iason shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Velez counters by moving into the clinch.
Iason tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Velez smiles and moves away.
Velez goes for a double leg but Iason avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Iason continues to drive forward.
Despite the aggression on Iason's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Iason can't find room to land a body shot as Velez controls the action.
Iason prevents Velez from breaking the clinch.
Iason controlling the action here for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Velez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Iason avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Iason - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Iason is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Velez is defending well for now.

Iason pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Velez moves in looking to clinch but Iason pushes him off.
Iason misses with a takedown attempt - Velez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Velez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Iason avoids it really well and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Velez is defended easily by Iason.
Iason raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Velez misses with a few strikes there.
Iason dives in for a single leg takedown but Velez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
And Velez counters with a quick kick to the body but Iason blocks it.
Iason misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Velez changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Iason is trying hard to land a takedown here. Velez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Velez throws a body kick that misses.
Velez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Iason looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Velez is fending him off so far but Iason persists. Nope, Velez circles away and we're back to standing.
Velez moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Iason takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Iason tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Velez closes the distance and clinches.
Velez slows down the pace here.
Iason scores with a shot to the side of Velez's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Miles Velez.
I think Iason has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
