PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eyia Diego (ranked 4072 p4p, 4309 weight class) and The Loser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Eyia Diego!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, The Loser!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Loser tries to bum rush Diego with a series of wild strikes but Diego uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diego scores with a jab. Loser acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Loser misses with a jab, cross combination.

Loser tries to keep at a distance but Diego has taken the fight into the clinch.
Loser goes for a takedown in the clinch but Diego prevents it.
Diego goes for a takedown attempt but Loser pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Loser throws a nice looking combination but Diego bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
As Loser tries to get set, Diego tries to push him back and clinch up but Loser manages to avoid the attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Loser lands with a thumping leg kick.
Diego fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Loser slips a jab and a cross from Diego.
Diego tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Diego is defended easily by Loser.

A low kick lands for Loser.
Diego dives in for a single leg takedown but Loser sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Loser gets underhooks to prevent Diego's takedown attempt.

Loser breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Diego rushes Loser and presses him up against the cage.
Loser fails to pull guard.
Diego stalling in the clinch.
Diego jumps guard but Loser turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Diego tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Loser smiles and moves away.
Loser lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Loser.
Diego shoots for a takedown but Loser saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Loser gets a takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Loser throwing shots but Diego is blocking nicely.

Loser seems to be working for a kimura but Diego defends the submission attempt.
Diego wants to get back to full guard.
Diego wants to control but Loser is keeping busy.
Loser thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Diego's head.
Diego is trying to stand back up but Loser is controlling him

Diego parries the strikes from Loser easily there. Loser is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Diego to escape.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Loser sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Diego is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Loser grinds an elbow into Diego's temple.
Diego defending against the ground and pound.
Loser controlling the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Diego parries the strikes from Loser easily there. Loser is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Diego to escape.
Loser is putting a hurting on Diego here, landing some big shots from side control.
Diego is not content to let Loser control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Loser throwing strikes but Diego manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Diego is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Loser stalks Diego and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Diego's face. Diego staggers backwards, shaken.

Loser shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Diego sprawls well. Diego wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Loser gets slowly back to his feet.
Loser dives in and grabs Diego's left leg, looking for a takedown. Diego pushes down on Loser's head and hops out.
Diego slips a jab and a cross from Loser.
Diego was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Loser throws a right hand that Diego ducks under and follows up with a left that Diego also avoids with ease.

Loser looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Diego is fending him off so far but Loser persists. Nope, Diego circles away and we're back to standing.
Eyia Diego has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of The Loser.
Loser closes the distance and clinches up with Diego, looking for a takedown. Loser pushes Diego against the cage but Diego circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Loser. No joy for Diego on that attempt.
Diego is looking to score with low kicks.

Diego fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Diego shoots in for a takedown but Loser shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Loser leaves Diego with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Loser throws a series of punches but Diego moves out of range.

Loser tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Diego half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Diego on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Loser. Loser obviously looking to wear him down.

Loser throws a head kick that Diego semi-blocks.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Loser pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Diego is struggling to control the position.
Loser wants to break free but Diego has control.
Come on Diego - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Loser has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Diego's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A head kick misses from Loser.
Loser jabs Diego right on the nose. Diego blinks but takes it well.
No joy there for Loser, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Loser throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Diego.
The Loser seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Loser tries to bum rush Diego with a series of wild strikes but Diego uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diego connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Loser's hands.
Diego shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Loser counters with a nice leg kick.

Diego gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Diego fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Loser pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Loser swats away the attempt to clinch by Diego.
Loser tries a head kick but it misses.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The Loser showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Diego manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Loser throws an elbow that misses. Diego uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Loser's guard. Nice move by Diego!

Loser bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diego's guard.

Loser working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Diego looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Loser drops back, looking for a kneebar! Diego looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Diego looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Diego!

Loser has managed to slip his arm under Diego's chin. This could be all over... yep, Diego is tapping out! Submission win for Loser.
