PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between The First Cowboy (ranked 4028 p4p, 4027 weight class) and Tommy Golden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, The First Cowboy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy Golden!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cowboy shoots in but no luck this time.
Golden looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cowboy is fending him off so far but Golden persists. Nope, Cowboy circles away and we're back to standing.
Cowboy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Golden counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Golden goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Golden throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cowboy was covering up waiting for the punch and Golden finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Golden is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Golden pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cowboy is keeping the position for now.
Cowboy might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Golden is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cowboy wants to get back to his feet but Golden is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Cowboy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Golden is one step ahead there.
Cowboy is working hard here to advance position.

Golden is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cowboy is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cowboy has escaped and now he's on top!

Cowboy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cowboy wants to get up but he can't break Golden's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cowboy passes into half guard.
Golden is trying to control but can't.

Cowboy is looking for a kimura but Golden is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cowboy to get the leverage.
Cowboy throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cowboy is looking to take a break and control but Golden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Golden is trying to stand.
Cowboy slows the pace down in half guard.
Golden trying to control from the bottom.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Golden clinches up against the cage.
Cowboy missing with knees to the body.
Golden is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cowboy gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Cowboy jumps guard and drags Golden to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Cowboy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Golden can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cowboy pulls Golden in close to prevent any damage.
Golden prevents Cowboy from getting back to his feet.

Golden advances position into side control!
Cowboy tries to escape but Golden is in control.

Golden goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cowboy rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Golden's guard! Nice work there by Cowboy!
Cowboy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Golden is keeping the position for now.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cowboy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cowboy got a little sloppy there for a moment and Golden has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cowboy has managed to get both his arms back between Golden's legs - danger averted.
Cowboy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that The First Cowboy will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Good work by Golden as he checks the leg kick.

Cowboy is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Golden's half guard.

Golden manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Cowboy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cowboy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Golden throws Cowboy to one side and escapes!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Golden defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cowboy.

Cowboy is trying to buck Golden off.
Golden is looking to take a break and control but Cowboy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cowboy taking a bit of punishment here - Golden scoring with strikes.
Cowboy wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Golden takes a little break here. Cowboy wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Golden tries to stand but Cowboy is controlling his head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Golden trying to control the position but Cowboy is working away.

Golden is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cowboy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Golden tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Golden has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Golden tries to advance to mount but Cowboy denies him.

Cowboy tries to buck Golden off but Golden is having none of it.
Golden trying to control the position but Cowboy is working away.
Golden throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Golden tries to stand but Cowboy is controlling his head.
Cowboy struggling a bit here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Golden stands up and beckons Cowboy to his feet.
Golden tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cowboy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Golden gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Cowboy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Golden has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cowboy stuffs the takedown.
Cowboy shoots in looking for a takedown. Golden tries to sprawl out of it but Cowboy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Golden manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Golden doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

Cowboy tries to sprawl but Golden drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Cowboy flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Cowboy wants to control but Golden is keeping busy.
Golden seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tommy Golden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Cowboy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Cowboy throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Golden tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cowboy is in Golden's guard.
Golden looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Cowboy controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Golden is looking to stand up but Cowboy isn't so interested in that idea.
Golden managing to control the position.
Cowboy throws a big elbow that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Golden tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Golden bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cowboy's guard.

Cowboy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Golden is one step ahead there.
Cowboy keeping moving, preventing Golden from controlling successfully.

Cowboy is looking for a triangle but Golden pushes his legs off easily.

Cowboy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Golden doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Golden manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tommy Golden has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Cowboy tries to clinch there but Golden circles away.
As Cowboy backs off Golden throws a huge counter combo but Cowboy manages to avoid it all.

Cowboy has Golden up against the cage in a clinch.

Golden breaks from the clinch.

Golden shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Golden trying to control but Cowboy is working from the bottom.
Cowboy looking for a sweep. Not yet Cowboy, not yet.

Golden stays in close to Cowboy's body and controls the position.
Golden looking to sit in guard and control but Cowboy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Cowboy trying to control but Golden is working from the bottom.
Cowboy is standing up over Golden. Golden looks to escape but Cowboy dives into side control.
The strikes coming from Cowboy are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Golden is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cowboy is controlling him well.
Golden is looking for a sweep.
Cowboy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Golden keeps working.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
The First Cowboy showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Cowboy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
