PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Cardoso (ranked 2687 p4p, 4637 weight class) and Preston Foster (ranked 340 p4p, 475 weight class). Preston Foster told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Matheus Cardoso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Preston Foster!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Cardoso does no damage.
Foster tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cardoso misses with a few strikes there.
Cardoso rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Foster moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
No joy there for Cardoso, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Foster unleashes a big counter combination but Cardoso bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Cardoso misses with a double jab.
Foster misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cardoso has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Foster clinches.
A short right from Cardoso on the inside.
Foster is trying to maintain a safe position but Cardoso gets an underhook and turns Foster into the cage.
Cardoso managing to block the knees to the body from Foster.
Foster tries a knee to the head but Cardoso blocks it.
Foster using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Cardoso has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Foster misses with a knee strike.
Cardoso is trying to break the clinch but Foster is controlling him.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Foster.

Cardoso escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Foster tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Foster is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Nice body kick from Foster.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cardoso throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Foster.
Foster throws a sloppy head kick and Cardoso moves out of range easily.
Foster wants to clinch up but Cardoso keeps it at a distance.
Matheus Cardoso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Foster closes the distance and clinches.
Foster has Cardoso pressed against the cage, preventing Cardoso from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Foster with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Cardoso pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Foster tries to clinch but Cardoso is having none of it.
Cardoso will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cardoso misses with a double jab
and Foster counters with an inside leg kick.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Foster.
Cardoso takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Foster lands a big head kick that sends Cardoso tumbling to the mat! Foster takes a step backwards and waves Cardoso back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cardoso swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Foster tries to clinch but Cardoso is having none of it.
Foster throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Cardoso.
Cardoso throws a left and a right that both miss
and Foster counters with a low kick, right behind Cardoso 's knee.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Foster throws a head kick but Cardoso moves out of range.
Cardoso appears to be looking for a big counter.
A chopping leg kick lands by Foster.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cardoso crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Foster - the referee stops the clock and Cardoso gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Foster. Cardoso manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Foster lands a head kick!
Cardoso throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Foster avoids a punch combination nicely.
Cardoso is breathing heavily.
Sloppy strikes from Cardoso. Those never looked like landing.
Cardoso tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Foster! Cardoso is out on his feet! Foster rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Cardoso is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Cardoso is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Preston Foster!
