PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Pike (ranked 500 p4p, 1125 weight class) and Big Fish (ranked 33 p4p, 87 weight class). Pike's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, DMX - Intro. Fish has chosen Cant Stop - RHCP as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christopher Pike!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Big Fish!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pike throws a left and a right that both miss
and Fish cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Fish moves to clinch but Pike breaks away
and Pike makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Fish really felt that one!

Fish fails with the takedown
and Pike connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fish connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Fish fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pike manages to avoid it.
Pike throws a jab when Fish was well out of range.

Fish slips under a jab from Pike.
The crowd cheers as Pike lands an impressive looking overhand right. Fish doesn't seem phased though.
Fish moves out of range as Pike strikes.

Fish shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Fish seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pike does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Fish is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pike sees it coming and defends easily.
Fish is taking a breather. Pike says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fish is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Pike is looking to improve his position but Fish isn't that keen on the idea.
Pike is working hard here to advance position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pike is looking to get to half guard.

Fish can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pike is looking to escape.
Pike is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Fish with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Fish wants to control the pace but Pike is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Fish takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Pike manages to regain half guard. Good work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pike wants to control but Fish is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pike controlling the position for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Fish looks to score with a jab to the body but Pike is just out of range.
Pike looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
We've been told by Pike's head coaches at The House Of Pain that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Fish blocks a jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pike moves out of range as Fish strikes.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Pike.

Pike throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Fish loads up on a big right hand but Pike slips the punch.
Fish lands a slapping body shot.

Fish throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Pike with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Pike connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Fish tries to clinch but Pike moves away
and Pike counters with a nice uppercut.
Christopher Pike is winning the standup battle so far.
Pike delivers a nice body kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Fish takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

It looks like Christopher Pike has been cut.
Fish misses with an uppercut. Pike saw that one coming.

Christopher Pike is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fighters circle momentarily. Pike darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Fish dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Fish with a lazy takedown attempt
and Pike counters with a stiff right hand.

Fish is rocked!
Both fighters circling a little - Pike finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Fish is still on wobbly legs! Can Pike finish him?
Pike scores with a kick to the midsection.
Pike steps in with a hook that catches Fish right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Pike follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Fish looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Christopher Pike!
Christopher Pike retains his bantamweight title!
After winning the bout, Christopher Pike thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
