This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 3 losses; Sammy Carrillo! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Rodrigo Lara! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Phil Schofield and Daniel Bishop.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Carrillo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Carrillo (2) vs (0) Lara The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Carrillo wants to pass to mount but Lara is defending the position. Lara looking for submissions off his back. Lara wants to control but Carrillo is keeping busy.
Carrillo looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Carrillo is working for a kimura but Lara is defending it quite comfortably.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lara gets back to full guard.

Carrillo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lara wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Lara working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Lara tries for a kimura but Carrillo is defending well.

Lara tries to advance to mount but can't. Carrillo is positioning himself to get back to half guard. You can see the frustration on Carrillo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Lara stacks Carrillo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Lara! Carrillo wants to free his trapped foot but Lara is holding on for dear life with his legs. Carrillo prevents Lara from improving his position. Lara is trying to maintain the position but Carrillo is very close to passing his half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Carrillo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lara defends it well. Lara is looking to control Carrillo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lara avoid being mounted?
